First MOWIT Awards Gala September 20, 2019!
Event to highlight area tradeswomen, contractors, and unions / apprenticeship programs
On behalf of Missouri Women In Trades (MOWIT), we would like to invite you to our inaugural Blue Collar/Black Tie Awards Gala on Friday, Sept. 20, 2019. This exciting event will highlight the hard work and achievements of area tradeswomen and honor unions and contractors who have gone the extra mile to support women in the building trades. Since our non-profit organization began in 2008, our mission has been to expand opportunities for women to enter and succeed in union apprenticeship and careers in the construction and building trades in the greater St. Louis area. Over the past three years, we have:
* established a physical location;
* provided mentoring to Building Union Diversity (BUD) program participants;
* sponsored numerous Survival Skills for Tradeswomen workshops;
* hosted several MoWIT Workdays to introduce women to the building trades and to provide hands-on learning;
* and directly assisted over 30 women entering into area apprenticeship programs.
While we are proud to report that we have accomplished these important contributions with a seven-member volunteer board and the help of many selfless, generous union tradeswomen who are MOWIT members, we need your help. Our goal with this first-ever Gala fundraiser is to raise enough
money to hire a part-time staff member to further our mission.
The building trades industry is facing a shortage of workers due to the retirement of the Baby Boomer generation. Women are our future. This inaugural event will celebrate tradeswomen’s achievements as well as the great strides made by local contractors and unions to support women in the trades. Enclosed is information about tickets, advertising in our program booklet, sponsorship levels, award categories and the nomination process. We thank you for your generous support and helping us succeed in our mission.
